Arts Tasmania

Tasmanian Residency for Independent Practice

This four-week residency is offered in partnership with Assembly 197.

  • This residency is $5,000 for one artist or $8,000 for two artists (Assembly 197 only has a one-bedroom cottage, so couples are recommended).
  • Grant funds must be used to cover the accommodation fee of $500 per week for one artist, or $750 per week for two artists.

Assembly 197 is the home of Tasdance, Situate, and Artery. Mudlark, Stompin, and Rooke Circus are also in-house partner organisations making Assembly 197 a vibrant hub of multi-artform activity.

This residency supports artists curious about expanding their practice by engaging in conversations and situations that encourage them to think broadly and boldly; a space for investigation of practice – how it connects to place, artists, audience, and community. Those working on site have experience in interdisciplinary practice and socially engaged work. Visiting artists will have the opportunity to connect to the wider arts community at Assembly 197.
