Tasmanian Aboriginal Arts Mentorship Scheme 2021-22
This program supports young and emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal arts and cultural practitioners to undertake projects that enable them to further their careers, enrich their artistic practice and contribute to Tasmania's arts sector.
A delegate for the Minister of the Arts has approved funding of $50 000 to support emerging Aboriginal artists to undertake monitorship activities.
Funding recommendations were made by expert peers drawn from the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register.
Grants
Adam Thompson – $10 000 towards a screen industry mentorship
Jayla Booth – $10 000 towards a mentorship with Performing Lines
Nathan Pitchford – $10 000 towards a creative discovery project with Nathan Maynard and Gabriel Comerford
Nindarra Wheatley – $10 000 towards a creative writing skills development mentorship
Sara Cooper – $10 000 towards extension of the Diversity Project program to support emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal screen practitioners develop screen acting skills
Feedback from the expert peers
The peers gave the following feedback to help current and future applicants:

- included good, relevant artistic material and examples of work that directly related to the proposed mentorship activities and outcomes
- described the proposed activities in an authentic, personal, honest, passionate, open and heartfelt manner
- clearly spoke to the benefits and/or outcomes for the artist as well as the community.
- The peers encouraged applications to future rounds from diverse artforms, including visual arts and cultural practice, literature, film, theatre and dance.
The peers encouraged applications to future rounds from emerging and early career artists of any age seeking to develop their arts practice and enhance their career progression.
