Feedback from the expert peers
Peers agreed that applications should clearly show a focus on contemporary dance and connect to the scholarship's aims. Where an applicant's background was in another style, such as commercial dance, musical theatre, or competition work, the strongest applications explained how the proposed training would build towards contemporary practice.
Applicants were encouraged to include:
- comprehensive, current support material and dance footage that demonstrates artistic ability, range, and recent development
- confirmation of acceptance into the nominated training program (where available), along with accurate costs.
- Clear justification for the chosen training or program, and how it aligns with long-term career goals.
- Activities and budgets that align with program guidelines and are based on confirmed activities.
Peers agreed stronger applications included:
- A clear artistic direction, with support material showing growth since any previous application.
- Detailed plans for outcomes beyond the training itself, not just completion of the course.
- Realistic, specific plans for connecting with and contributing to the Tasmanian dance sector — during and after the activity — including partnerships and engagement.
- A clear explanation of why the scholarship is timely and essential to achieving the applicant's goals.
- Confirmation that the proposed activity meets the scholarship's requirements, including any minimum duration.
