Extraction – Kim Nielson-Creeley
Extraction
Extraction is a flowing, intimate book of poetry anchored by its origins in the island state, Lutruwita/Tasmania. Generations of history, defined and undefined places, and people mesh with familial, political affiliations, all set in the fabric of the landscape. Honest, vulnerable, sometimes wry, Kim's words weave and play in a labyrinth of language harvested in a delicious mix drawn from, but never excluding, pop culture and the local library. Read Extraction out loud.
About the author
Kim Nielsen-Creeley was born in Queenstown, a mining town in Lutruwita/Tasmania. Her poems have a keen sense of place, responding to landscape and history. Kim has an honours degree in fine art, and she continues her practice of drawing on paper, recently incorporating poetry beneath the surface. She has performed her poems on local and national radio, and is involved in slam poetry throughout the state with Launceston-based Words United Inc. She likes to read in the local scene, and has committed her latest book to audio, which will be released in 2025. Extraction (2024), published through Walleah Press, is her first full book of poetry, following on from a self-published chap book, Roughly (2022).
