Before the Mountain had a Name – Fiona Levings
Before the Mountain had a name
Mountains are memories, stories written in stone that tell of change we can scarcely imagine. Extinctions, volcanoes, dinosaurs – we all know they existed, but how are ancient worlds and their inhabitants connected to us today? Before the Mountain had a Name is a richly illustrated journey through deep time to a place long ago where the bones of kunanyi/Mt Wellington formed from the remains of a frozen sea. The 300-million-year-old story in the geology of our mountain is the story of Australia as it separated from Gondwanaland to become the land we know today. Past worlds may have vanished but not everything that is ancient is lost.
