Now and Then

'There is a little wooden house in our town. It has been there for a while. Now, it is Jem’s home. Then, it was Doug’s home.' What could 7-year-old Doug living in 1940 possibly have in common with 8-year-old Jem in 2019? Small town Tasmania has changed a lot in eighty years … but what about the people who live here? Are we really that different from our grandparents? Now and Then is a richly-illustrated non-fiction picture book that invites children to compare the modern world to that of generations past - and to decide for themselves how much things have really changed

About the author

Fiona Levings is a Hobart-based author and illustrator who draws inspiration from the Tasmanian environment, community and family connections. Her first book, The Moonbow was inspired directly by the beauty (and fickleness) of the Tasmanian landscape; her second, Now and Then, captures a piece of local history. Fiona was honoured to be selected as the 2020 Ian Wilson Memorial Fellow by the May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust. Now and Then has been recognised as a Notable book in the Eve Pownall (non-fiction) category of the 2020 CBCA Awards.
