Arts Tasmania

Claudio Alcorso International Residency (March 2019)

This program supports individual artists working in any artform to undertake self-directed residencies and professional development opportunities overseas.

It is offered in partnership with the Alcorso Foundation.

Recommended for support

Arts Tasmania uses peer assessors, drawn from the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register, to recommend activities for support.

Peer assessors recommended that two residencies be supported with funds totaling $14 000 through this round.

Travis Tiddy - $7 000 towards the research of place-based art festivals in Europe.

Tricky Walsh - $7 000 towards a residency and exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Feedback from the expert peers

The peers provided the following feedback for current and future applicants:

  • This was a highly competitive round with a large number of high quality applications that could not all be supported.
  • The peers noted that a number of applicants to this program had also lodged applications to complementary programs such as Artsbridge. Peers encouraged applicants applying to more than one program to avoid a 'cut and paste’ approach, agreeing that applications that were tailored to the program guidelines or objectives were more competitive.
  • Applications that included a clear connection between the artists practice and the proposed activity location were more likely to be recommended for support.
  • The peers noted that stronger applications showed how the proposed activity would support their individual practice and would add value to the social and cultural fabric of Tasmania's community.
  • Applications were strengthened by the inclusion of clearly dated letters of invitation or confirmation, alongside relevant letters of support.

The peers thanked the Alcorso Foundation for its support in making this program possible.
