Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register

Expressions of interest are now being accepted for the for the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register.

What is the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register?

In line with the Cultural and Creative Industries Act 2017, the expert peers that assess applications to Arts Tasmania and Screen Tasmania's funding programs are drawn from the Cultural Creative Industries Expert Register.

Screen Tasmania uses a standing panel from the register called the Screen Tasmania Expert Advisory Group, while Arts Tasmania uses different groups of peers to assess each grant program.

Who can be on the register?

People who work in or are engaged with the arts sector such as artists, administrators, or other sector professionals are encouraged to put forward an expression of interest. We are seeking a broad range of peers that represent all artform areas, regions of Tasmania, cultural backgrounds as well as peers of all ages and career stages.

How do I join the register?

Fill out the expression of interest form online in SmartyGrants.

All expressions of interest are assessed by staff from Arts Tasmania and Screen Tasmania. Recommendations are then made to the Minister for the Arts who will appoint suitable peers.

You will be notified by email of the outcome of your expression of interest.

What would I need to do?

If you are appointed to the register, you may be invited to assess applications made to Arts Tasmania or Screen Tasmania's programs.
This involves:

  • using an online assessment system to read and score applications
  • attending assessment meetings online, or at our offices in Hobart or Launceston
  • participating in a range of discussions with other members of the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register
  • working together to put forward funding recommendations to the Minister for the Arts, or their delegate

You must also declare any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest with applicants as part of this process, and all material sent to peer assessors is strictly confidential.

There is no obligation to take part in an assessment if you are invited to do so.

What about access requirements?

It is important that the peer assessment process is inclusive and accessible. If you are asked to assess, we can support you with access requirements including physical access, audio and visual assistance or arrangements for caring responsibilities.

Do I get paid?

Yes, all assessors are paid in accordance with Tasmanian Government guidelines. This includes a fee for the assessment and any costs associated with participating in the meeting, such as travel and accommodation costs (where reasonable and appropriate).

The amount you are paid depends on how many applications you are asked to assess and how long assessment meetings go for.
