Aboriginal Arts Program

Arts Tasmania's Aboriginal Arts Program supports arts activities by Aboriginal artists and organisations that stimulate contemporary, traditional and non-traditional Aboriginal art forms and practice.

This program is focused on providing opportunities for professional development through mentorships, fellowships and activities that demonstrate strong developmental content.

The March 2021 round includes $10 000 to support young artists or activities focused on working with young people (aged 0 to 25 years and under).

Applications are submitted through the online application system SmartyGrants. Applicants will need to register or log in to SmartyGrants before starting their application.

Notification will occur within ten weeks of the closing date.

    • Aboriginal artists,
    • recognised Aboriginal organisations that are legally constituted;
    • organisations applying for support towards an Aboriginal specific project.

    Applications will be peer assessed by a panel comprising of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

    Applications will be assessed against the criteria of:

    • quality
    • planning
    • benefit
