The Island Inspired Minister's Awards 2009
The Island Inspired Minister's Awards are an initiative of The Minister for the Arts and Arts Tasmania. Nominations are welcome from the community in order to recognise and celebrate Tasmania's artists and cultural leaders for their outstanding contributions and achievements in the arts. The awards recognise individuals for artistic excellence, innovation, achievement and/or support of the arts. The Awards are made by the Minister biennially on the basis of advice from the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board.
The Island Inspired Minister's Awards are open to artists and cultural leaders, whose arts / cultural practise has largely taken place within Tasmania for the benefit of the Tasmanian community. Alternatively, a nominee may be a Tasmanian who has brought great esteem to the State, advancing its cultural identity through their artistic / career achievements.
Awards are made in the following categories:
• Distinguished Tasmanian Artist Award
Honouring distinguished Tasmanian artists (all artforms) who have made a strong and lasting contribution to the arts in Tasmania over a long period of time. This award recognises the achievements and significant difference recipients have made to the arts in Tasmania at a local, national, and international level and the legacy of distinguished artists through a long career.
• Island Inspired Cultural Leader Award
Honouring people who through leadership, advocacy, service and participation have made an exceptional contribution to the arts in Tasmania.
