Tasmania Performs at the Australian Performing Arts Market

Tasmania's performing arts companies will be in the spotlight next week at the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) in Adelaide. A biennial event, APAM is the biggest showcase of Australian touring product and is designed to match the work from touring companies with presenting venues from across Australia and internationally.

Arts Tasmania, through its program Tasmania Performs, will be supporting the companies and individual artists by promoting the tour-ready works on offer from the state. "There is a great diversity of product from the Tasmanian companies. While we may be a small state we cover all the genres," Manager of arts@work, Fiona Barber said. "With over 500 delegates registered for APAM it will provide excellent networking opportunities. I am delighted that so many of the Tasmanian companies will be in Adelaide as personal contact is so critical in the development of long term touring relationships."

Katherine Hough, Director of Arts Tasmania will attend APAM to lend her support to the Tasmanian companies. "It is an important opportunity for the Australian and international delegates to look at the work coming out of Tasmania with a view to programming their future seasons." Ms Hough said.

Tasmania Performs has a booth at APAM to promote the Tasmanian industry and has developed a USB with the details of the tour-ready productions to make it easy for buyers to assess whether the shows could be the right fit for their seasons and their audiences.

Fiona Barber and Annette Downs, Producer of Tasmania Performs, both come from a strong performing arts background and they will be in Adelaide utilising their national and international contacts to really sell the distinctive Tasmanian works.

The Tasmanian shows on offer are: underwhere from Lucy Who productions, This is Living and Drive-in Holiday from Big hArt, Mercy: A Dance for the Forgotten from Tasdance, Catapult from Circus Elysium, Beyond the Neck from Tasmania Performs, Dream Masons from Salamanca Arts Centre, Home from Stompin, Spectre of the Rose from Robert Jarman and Explosion Therapy from Terrapin Puppet Theatre.
