New guide highlights Tasmanian summer activities

A colourful and informative guide highlighting a range of exciting Tasmanian Summer activities was launched in Hobart in November.

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment, Paula Wriedt, said Tasmania's Summer Discoveries Guide lists an amazing variety of events, programs and exhibitions which showcase the State's unique cultural and natural assets.

Ms Wriedt said the publication, produced by the Department of Tourism, Arts and the Environment, highlights activities in National Parks, archaeological digs, outdoor theatre experiences, festivals and a chance to see some internationally acclaimed exhibitions.

"Summer Discoveries is designed to inspire Tasmanians to get out and about and enjoy the fantastic opportunities available across the State.

"I would encourage everyone to make this Summer one of discovery.
"There is something for everyone whether you are 3 or 83 with a great range of activities and venues.

Ms Wriedt said the guide is also full of useful suggestions if you are entertaining visiting friends and relatives this festive season.

"Summer Discoveries highlights the very popular Discovery Ranger activities in National Parks and reserves, holiday programs and exhibitions.

"It also lists a range of special events being held at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and the Port Arthur Historic Site.

"Festivals, major sporting fixtures and carnivals sponsored by Events Tasmania are also all included in this one stop entertainment guide."

Ms Wriedt said the guide also lists the Tasmanian Visitor Information Centres so that tourists and Tasmanians can go and get their own tips on touring the state.

The guide will be available at the Visitor Information Centres and will also be distributed throughout Tasmania in newspapers on Saturday 25 November.
It can be downloaded from the   Discover Tasmania website.
