International Opportunity for Tasmanian Designers

Tasmanian Designers are being encouraged to apply for the 2010 Vitra Design Museum Fellowship, which offers designers the opportunity to participate in an international design workshop in France.

The successful designer will attend a week-long workshop of their choice at the Domaine de Boisbuchet, an idyllic country estate in rural south-west France.

The workshops are led by renowned international designers, architects and artists, and focus on insights into the design process and the challenges of creativity, lateral thinking and practical skills.

Vitra Design Museum Fellowship 2008 recipient Poppy Taylor said it is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with international designers from different disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds.

"For me, the week's workshop offered unique design challenges that have extended the boundaries of my design ethos. The experience was professionally enriching and creatively revitalising." Ms Taylor said.

This Australian-first fellowship is part of an ongoing partnership formed last year between Arts Tasmania, the Vitra Design Museum and CIRECA (Centre International de Recherche et d'Education Culturelle et Agricole).

The Fellowship, valued at $5000, includes participation in a week-long wopkshop, airfares, accommodation and meals.

The successful designer will also receive an exclusive personal tour of the Vitra Design Museum and collection in Basel with curator Mathias Schwartz-Clauss.

The Vitra Design Museum is an internationally acclaimed cultural institution that continues to make a significant contribution to the research and dissemination of design.

Expressions of Interest for the fellowship are due to Arts Tasmania by Friday, 4 June.
