Arts Tasmania's New Gallery

Arts Tasmania is proud to announce the establishment of an exciting, new exhibition venue in Hobart.

The gallery space in the shop front area of the old Bridges Brothers building at 146 Elizabeth Street, the new home of Arts Tasmania, arts@work, AbaF, and Tas Performs.

The 105 square metre area will enable Arts Tasmania to present a variety of exhibitions; from heritage objects, to two and three-dimensional works, installations, ephemeral and conceptual art.

Arts Tasmania and arts@work staff are very enthusiastic about the development of this new space and the opportunities for community engagement. The space will showcase exhibitions promoting individual artists, groups or shows with strong links and relevance to this island as well as showcasing the heritage collections of Tasmania's small museums (through exhibitions developed in consultation with the Roving Curators). The gallery will strengthen the viability and growth of our dynamic arts practitioners, arts organisations and heritage collections by showcasing them to the wider Tasmanian community and national and international visitors.

Individual artists, artist cooperatives and arts organisations will be able to apply to exhibit. The gallery will present 10 exhibitions each year, including those initiated by Arts Tasmania.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5 pm.

The Exhibition Policy and details on making an Expressions of Interest will be available from December 2008.
