International artists are being encouraged to take part in the State Government's world-renowned Natural and Cultural Residency Program.
Two artists from the other side of the globe have been invited to spend up to six weeks in 2008 in Tasmania's iconic natural environment.
Artists can choose from Lake St Clair in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Maria Island National Park, Kings Bridge Gorge Cottage in Launceston, the Port Arthur Historic Site or King Island.
Introducing artists from different cultures not only stimulates new and creative ways of interpreting a place, it also opens the community's eyes to the diversity of cultural difference in the world.
The international residency program was initiated in 2006 in response to huge interest by artists from all corners of the globe seeking access to Tasmania's unique and envied residency program.
To date the program has supported over 60 Tasmanian and six international artists.
Earlier in this year, American painter Tia Factor and German installation artist Iris Zogel travelled to Tasmania to take part in the program.
Iris Zogel said of her time at Lake St Clair:
"I had very precious time to think, to concentrate on myself, on my work, on my ideas I have about life, of work, of art, of relationships of any kind - without being disturbed or interrupted. I was forced to think - by the weird situation, the powerful environment, the change, by everything. It was wonderful and very important to me."
