Amplified 2009 blasts off

One of Tasmania's leading music events will roar into action on 17-19 July with a chart-topping roster of concerts, workshops and conferences.

The Minister for Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts, Michelle O'Byrne, today said Amplified as an exciting and unique opportunity for anyone involved in Tasmania's music industry.

"Amplified is Tasmania's biggest annual music industry development program, and is designed to acknowledge, celebrate and develop the skills of young, emerging and established Tasmanian musicians," Ms O'Byrne said.

"Industry experts taking part are among the top players in Australia's music scene, and they will be giving practical and productive advice to musicians, managers and everyone in between."

Amplified crams 96 bands, 24 guest speakers, 10 concerts, five workshops and two compilation CDs into one, action-packed weekend.

Ms O'Byrne said ABC Radio has joined forces with Arts Tasmania for the ABC Amplified Awards; a gala night that acknowledges excellence in the music industry.

"The Awards will feature performances by Mick Thomas, Craig Pilkington, Lincoln Le Fevre, Let the Cat Out and All Fires the Fire and will be hosted by Andy Muirhead (ABC Radio) and Steph Hughes (Triple J)," she said.

"Amplified 2009 will also feature 10 showcase performances thanks to funding grants through Arts Tasmania."

"And the Amplified conference is also very accessible for people at all levels in the music industry, with registration costing just $20."

The Amplified program is available from outlets around Hobart, including Arts Tasmania (146 Elizabeth Street) and the ABC Centre.

The program can also be downloaded from the Arts Tasmania website, where you can also vote in the ABC Amplified Awards and book your place for the Awards night:
