Cultural Heritage Organisations

This program supports Tasmanian cultural heritage organisations to deliver high quality activities that:

  • strengthen Tasmania's robust, diverse, and vibrant cultural heritage sector,
  • engage and inspire audiences and the wider community,
  • and preserve Tasmania's movable cultural heritage.

Opens: 1 July 2024
Closes: 2 September 2024

For activities commencing after 1 July 2025.

We will contact you about your organisation’s application within ten weeks of the closing date.

Applications are closed.

  • Eligibility

    As the applicant, your organisation must:

    • be a Tasmanian museum, gallery or collection
    • manage a publicly owned, publicly accessible, permanent collection of movable cultural heritage objects or artworks; and,
    • have (or be working towards) regular opening hours.

    Privately owned collections, federal government collections, Tasmanian Government Business Enterprises and Tasmanian Government Departments are not eligible to apply.

    Your organisation must also meet our general eligibility requirements.

    What can my organisation apply for?

    Your organisation can apply for funding towards activities like:

    • permanent, temporary or touring exhibitions,
    • marketing,
    • education,
    • public programs.

    It can also apply for support to improve professional management of collections, including:

    • improving access to collections,
    • the care of collections,
    • product development.

    If your organisation is applying for funds towards a program of public activities, it can apply for operational costs including:

    • staffing costs for museums professionals
    • graphic design and printing costs
    • software licenses
    • promotional materials.

    Grant funds cannot be used to purchase equipment.

    Archival materials

    Your organisation can apply for funds to purchase archival materials.

    Applications will be assessed by a museum and cultural heritage panel using the criteria of:

    THINGS PEERS MAY CONSIDER

    Quality

    • Is the activity conceptually strong?
    • Why is the activity important?
    • Are the people involved experienced, or show the potential to develop and grow?

    Planning

    • Is the activity financially feasible?
    • Is the timeline reasonable and achievable?
    • What partnerships are in place to help the activity?

    Benefit

    • How does the proposed activity benefit the applicant, the artist, or the community?
    • What is the audience experience?
